IT CAME FROM PEBBLE MILL
How BBC Birmingham revolutionised television drama in the 1970s
Midlands Arts Centre, 2-4 July
In 1971 producer David Rose was assigned to run a new department in a new building. English Regions Drama was based at Pebble Mill in Edgbaston, with a brief to develop emerging talent and produce work which reflected life beyond London. Over the next decade they produced a host of innovative and ground-breaking dramas, as well as giving early breaks to writers and directors including Mike Leigh, Alan Bleasdale and David Hare. It Came From Pebble Mill pays testament to a remarkable period of creativity in British television and we’re delighted that many of the people who made it possible, including David Rose himself, will be joining us for the weekend.
It Came From Pebble Mill is presented by Birmingham City University and 7 Inch Cinema, and supported by the National Lottery through ScreenWM.
