Project 42 – Four sheds, four artists, five days and a collection of early mac memories...
2 August 2010
mac and Talking Birds, the Coventry-based company of artists that specialises in acts of transformation invite you to Project 42; a week-long programme of artist-led work camps and activity from 2 - 6 August.
Inspired by the groups of European students who helped to create the 60’s mac whilst working and living on-site, four artists will reside in sheds across the first week in August to capture and reinvent the spirit of the project through installation and performances.
Two sheds will be occupied by participatory summer schools:
- Singing Work-Camp:
10am-4pm, 2nd-6th August 2010, Ages 16+, £50 (£40)
Project 42 invites you to stretch your vocal chords with a week-long participatory singing workshop taking place in a shed on-site at mac. Working with a professional vocal artist and coach, participants will explore songs from the many countries represented by mac’s 60’s work-camp attendees.
Those who assisted in the original build of mac were from countries across Europe and all over the world including Italy, France, Sweden and America and participants to the Project 42 work camp will have an opportunity to share, learn and perform songs that were shared during their time spent living and working at mac. - Performance Work-Camp:
10am-4pm, 2nd-6th August 2010, Ages 16+, £50 (£40)
Project 42 is calling for interested participants to help devise, rehearse and perform an episodic live show through a week-long performance work camp. Working with a professional practitioner, participants will explore performing techniques to develop, test and perform a unique show which celebrates the humble shed in its many and varied forms. The performance work camp will take place in and around an innovatively designed interchangeable shed on-site in mac’s Foyle Studio.

Two sheds will be occupied by artist led residencies, open to the general public to visit and contribute - you can seek out, discover or simply bump into the artists working in and around their sheds across several sites inside and outside mac.
