Produced in association with Stan's Cafe and mac
Applications are now open for the 2011 programme!
'Exciting, mind-opening, educational theatre-vacation, so much fun, inspiring, ideas ideas ideas, thought provoking, challenging, great food, great theatre and dance and performance and workshops and people –not easy to pull off but by George they did it.' [George Mann of Theatre Ad Infinitum: BE FESTIVAL 2010 Prize winner]
BE FESTIVAL is Birmingham's European festival of performing arts, featuring the most daring and original work from across the continent. BE FESTIVAL 2011 will take place from 5-10 July. We are looking for performances that can reach audiences of multiple linguistic and cultural backgrounds, embodying our aim to cross borders in imaginative ways.
Selected performances will be watched by an international panel of arts professionals, and two main prizes will be awarded. The Development Prize provides financial support for the winning company, and a rehearsal residency and full-length production of the winning piece at mac as part of BE 2012. The Touring Prize supports a tour of international theatre festivals.
BE FESTIVAL also offers a full and diverse programme of performance workshops, feedback sessions, discussions, special guest performances and parties.
The call for artists is open, and if you are a European theatre or dance-maker with a show that crosses national and/or theatrical borders, don't hesitate to apply! The deadline for applications is 11th March 2011, and we require a DVD of the idea in rehearsal or performance, as well as a fully-completed application form. All selected companies will receive accommodation, transport within Birmingham, a festival pass, and delicious food! We do not support travel from abroad, but we can give advice and assistance with finding funding.
We look forward to hearing from you, and please spread the word.
