The Paper Birds: Thirsty

Multi award winning company The Paper Birds present their critically acclaimed, sell-out show Thirsty.

Based on our nations love affair with alcohol, Thirsty weaves together real stories, memories and booze-based confessions, collected from a ‘drunken hotline’ and an online questionnaire. Fusing live music, verbatim text and stunning physical theatre, The Paper Birds explore the stories and social repercussions of lost memories and gained traumas, bruised knees, uncontrollable laughter, urine stained beds and sore heads, particularly focusing on the women waving the flag for 'Booze-Britain.'

A dynamic theatrical exploration delving beyond statistics, facts and figures ‘Thirsty’ looks to the faces and the voices of everyone who likes a drink and asks why, as a Nation, are we so thirsty?

Verbatim Theatre Workshops with The Paper Birds

The Paper Birds' devising methodology centres on use of verbatim text. Collating interviews and questionnaire answers, the words of the British public serve a stimulus for script-writing. This workshop, delivered by the cast of Thirsty, allows participants to explore techniques and exercises used in the creation of the piece.

Fusing both verbatim text and physicality, this session encourages participants to experiment with the spectrum of verbatim theatre and question the politics in performance, and demonstrate The Paper Birds' unique approach to making physical/visual work.

These workshops are available for a variety of age groups and levels. Please direct enquiries to learning@macarts.co.uk
